You can design, edit photos, create page layouts, and even sketch on the go, all in the same file.
Exactly one year ago, Canva relaunched the Affinity suite as a free, unified creative app that brought together professional tools for graphic design, photo editing, and desktop publishing. Now, the app is also free on iPad, combining the features of the three previous iPad apps: Affinity Photo, Affinity Designer, and Affinity Publisher.
The iPad version features Pixel, Vector, and Layout studios, along with a new Sketch studio, all wrapped in an interface designed specifically for the tablet. Affinity uses its own .af file format but also supports a wide range of other formats, including JPEG, PNG, WebP, PDF, SVG, EPUB, and INDD. You can work with the same files across mobile and PC, and while some desktop features are missing at launch, the Affinity team plans to bring them over through future updates, free as well. All currently available features are free to use: the only exception is Canva's AI tools, which follow the same separate access model as on the desktop version.
The new Sketch Studio is an interesting addition, putting Affinity in direct competition with apps like Procreate. It brings dedicated freehand drawing tools, including more than 350 editable brushes that respond to Apple Pencil pressure, tilt, and barrel roll.
