Dismayland fun fair hosts Linda Kellie tribute on Sunday

Dismayland, the deliberately unpleasant fun fair on Spax Orion’s Ozone Miniverse grid, will hold a three-hour gala in honor of OpenSim content creator Linda Kellie this Sunday, October 25, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. SLT, Orion told Hypergrid Business.

The event, called “The Ghost of Linda Kellie — A Compulsory Tribute,” will have gags, gifts, and surprises, Orion said. The event poster also promises music, live performers, party favors, and a costume ball with a black, crimson, and gold theme. A tribute theater show starts at noon, according to the event listing on OpenSimWorld.

“The park was built on her foundation,” Orion said. “Now she is coming to collect.”

Despite the ghostly name — and the word “memorial” on the region’s OpenSimWorld listing — Kellie is alive, and the event is a thank-you, not a memorial. When I asked Orion if Kellie had died, the answer was blunt.

“Absolutely not,” Orion told Hypergrid Business. “Her generosity keeps on giving over and over again to this day. People are still sharing her OARs and content.”

Orion said he used a lot of Kellie’s work to build the park, and when he used AI to search for any event the community had held to thank her, he found nothing.

“I decided to correct that oversight and invite the community to chip in and help me throw a party,” Orion said. “The Ghost of Linda Kellie is now a permanent fixture at the park.”

The ghostly theme fits the park, Orion added, which is full of scripted pranks. Dismayland runs on a “Chaos Engine” that breaks rides, rigs games, and turns its NPCs hostile, according to the OpenSimWorld listing, which also warns that the park is a mature experience with rude NPCs. Flying is disabled, and Firestorm version 7 is recommended.

Community members have donated upcycled Linda Kellie content for the gift table at the event, Orion said. The region will open with a cap of 40 avatars, which Orion said will go up if things stay stable. Orion also talked about the tribute on the Inworld Review show on YouTube.

Orion and creator Dirty Helga released a free NPC management station to the community earlier this year. These days, Orion said, the theme park is “the primary and most active process” on the grid.

Her OARs are still free — and all available to download

Kellie built a complete starter kit for OpenSim grids — avatars, clothing, buildings, furniture, and landscaping — and gave it all away. Her goal was to jump-start legal content in OpenSim, and she’s certainly accomplished that.

Her content is released under CC0, the public-domain license, so you can use it as a base to build new things and do anything you want with them — including selling them. Kellie has told Hypergrid Business in the past that she’s fine with that.

That makes her OARs — region backup files — a fully legal, properly licensed place to start if you’re setting up new regions anywhere. That includes OSgrid residents who are looking for new homes ahead of the grid’s year-end reset.

All 32 of her OARs are free to download, with no login required, from The OAR Shop. The descriptions below come from the archived pages of Zadaroo, the site that used to host her collection. A few regions are rated mature, and Kellie’s own disclaimer asked grid owners to go through each OAR and take out anything that doesn’t fit their audience.

  • Aurora Free Furniture — 17,341 prims. A waterfront furniture showroom under a pergola roof, laid out as room-by-room displays — living rooms, bedrooms, a kitchen, a dining room, an office, and a bathroom.
  • Autumn Castle — 6,128 prims, general rating. A castle on a hill surrounded by a moat, left unfurnished so you can decorate it yourself.
  • Avatar Center — 5,524 prims. Everything a new user needs to set up an avatar. Kellie said she never finished it, but released it as is.
  • Boardwalk — 7,450 prims, general rating. Piers lined with boardwalk shops, including an ice cream shop, a coffee shop, and a beach store stocked with swimwear and flip-flops.
  • Building Supply — 5,553 prims. Four building supply stores, with the rest of the region left as a sandbox, so visitors can grab supplies and start building a few steps away.
  • Business District — 17,323 prims. Buildings of different shapes and sizes, including a high-rise, for offices, schools, or stores. You’ll need to add your own teleporters between floors.
  • Castle — a full region with a spired castle on a rocky hill above a medieval village, with a waterfall. This is a different build from Autumn Castle.
  • Clutterfly Shopping — Kellie’s Clutterfly freebie store, with its walls of vendor boards. At nearly 1 GB, it’s by far the biggest download in the set.
  • Conference Center — 1,893 prims. A conference room, plus a dressing room where visitors can pick out men’s or women’s clothing before going in.
  • Country Cabin — 1,991 prims. A furnished log cabin on a lake, with a stone fireplace, a big deck, a dock with a rowboat, and a separate office building.
  • Designs — 12,815 prims. A hilltop dance area with couples dances and a bar overlooking the water, and a deck on a tiny island with a fishing boat and a rope bridge.
  • English Garden — 4,505 prims. An English garden and an unfurnished cottage, with plenty of room and prims left over for your own builds.
  • Fantasy Island — 6,442 prims, mature rating. A cluster of small islands joined by brightly colored, gem-trimmed bridges, with leaf-shaped floats for lounging on the water.
  • Freebie Mall — 12,330 prims, mature rating. A fully stocked freebie mall. Give away what’s there or add your own items. The grounds are left empty.
  • Freebie Mall Part 2 — 23,620 prims, mature rating. The expanded version two of the freebie mall, with more stock.
  • Garden Center — 1,765 prims. A garden shop set among trees and winding stone paths.
  • Giant Tree — one enormous tree on a small rocky island. At under 1 MB, it’s the smallest file in the set.
  • Inner Child — a mostly open grassy region with a large pond and a small building, with plenty of room to build.
  • Kids Place — a region for child and teen avatars, with an avatar shop, a gift shop, a school with a classroom, and a sandbox.
  • Lakehouse — 1,722 prims. A furnished modern house on a ring-shaped island around a lagoon, with a dock, a lily pond, and a piano in the living room.
  • Mountain Retreat — 3,060 prims. A furnished two-story house with a kitchen, laundry area, and a huge loft bedroom with a double fireplace.
  • OpenSim Free Furniture — 17,341 prims. The same furniture showroom as Aurora Free Furniture, for OpenSim grids.
  • Shopping Center — 1,570 prims. Twenty empty stores, each 20 by 40 meters, to use yourself or rent out.
  • Space Welcome Center — 4,211 prims. A space-themed welcome center. Kellie built it on an Aurora-Sim grid, but it works on OpenSim.
  • Swamp — 5,231 prims. A swamp with a big manor house on the hill, and room left to build.
  • Tiki Summer — 4,275 prims, mature rating. Unfurnished tiki huts for residents, plus six small shops, one of them stocked with swimwear.

  • Urban City — 10,473 prims. A city with 12 stores full of free items — textures, furniture, shoes, jewelry, clothing, costumes, avatars, prefab buildings, animations, and more — plus a gas station and a homeless shelter.
  • Welcome Center — a square plaza of red-and-gray buildings around a central pool, with gazebo kiosks, cafe tables, and landscaped planters.
  • Western Town — 7,719 prims, mature rating. A frontier town with a general store, saloon, hotel with guest rooms, church, cemetery, undertaker and gallows, plus a horse trail and a waterfall.
  • Winter — 3,770 prims. A snowy region with an amphitheater that seats about 100, a stage floating on an iceberg, and an ice fishing spot.

After loading one of the OARs, you may need to reset the scripts in poseballs, rides, and furniture.
