Happy Sunday, DayOne community! Here’s our usual weekly roundup of all the top news stories, reviews and shows from the last week. If you’ve missed anything, now’s the chance to catch up – and there’s plenty to catch up on! Let’s jump right in.

News:

Monday:

Monday kicked off with reports that Sony is planning to revive the Killzone franchise, potentially bringing the long-dormant PlayStation series back into the spotlight. Capcom also had reason to celebrate, with its new Onimusha game selling more than one million copies on launch day. Meanwhile, further details emerged around changes to Xbox game streaming, suggesting that existing subscribers in some markets may be spared from the upcoming changes.

Tuesday:

Tuesday brought a busy mix of Xbox, Nintendo and industry news. Forza Horizon 6 is getting a British Automotive Update, although a new report claims the game’s PS5 release has been pushed into 2027. Nintendo revealed that The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Remake will arrive this November alongside a special-edition Zelda-themed Nintendo Switch 2 console during their Zelda-themed showcase. Elsewhere, Geoff Keighley and Mark Cerny announced a new fellowship aimed at supporting and developing the next generation of game designers.

Wednesday:

Nintendo dominated Wednesday following a packed Direct showcase, with Metroid Ravenous announced for January 2027 and Kirby and the World Beyond confirmed for spring 2027. Metal Slug Ultimate Collection was also revealed for 2027, while a Steam leak appeared to expose achievements for several upcoming and potentially unannounced games. Over on Xbox, new features including 1440p Remote Play and custom boot animations are on the way, Modern Warfare 4 players on Xbox are set to receive a unique pre-order bonus, and an Xbox executive appeared to tease the return of Wolfenstein.

Thursday:

Thursday’s biggest surprise saw Xbox strike a new deal to publish Hideo Kojima’s Physint immediately after it was dropped by PlayStation. Wardogs entered Early Access, with console versions currently targeting 2028, while pre-orders opened for the new GTA 6 DualSense controllers. Nintendo also rolled out a Switch 2 system update adding docked VRR and system transfer support, while Stage Tour unveiled another three additions to its line-up.

Friday:

Friday brought a sizeable new PUBG update, with version 43.1 adding kicking mechanics and new options for combat in water. A new report also shed more light on why PlayStation parted ways with Hideo Kojima, pointing towards concerns surrounding budget, performance and delays. Finally, Xbox detailed another busy week of releases heading to the platform between September 14 and 18.

Blizzcon News:

BlizzCon delivered some huge announcements for Blizzard’s biggest franchises. A new StarCraft was revealed as an open-world shooter, while Diablo V was officially announced with a 2029 release window. Diablo IV is heading to Nintendo Switch 2 this month, alongside the announcement of an animated Netflix series, while World of Warcraft: Forever was unveiled for release this November. Together, the announcements made BlizzCon 2026 a particularly packed showcase for Blizzard’s future slate.
